HEALTH CANADA’S SPECIAL ACCESS PROGRAM (SAP) FOR OBTAINING LEECHES Since the fall of 2010, all legal Canadian leech purchases must be authorized by Health Canada’s Special Access Program (SAP). The doctor must fill out a form from Health Canada whether leeches are ordered on an emergency basis or on an elective basis in case of emergency. To assist in the application for use process, CSPS member Dr. Don Lalonde has prepared detailed notes and a sample Form B: Future Use Request.
